Dartmouth College's Big Green Bus, a Coach-class bus powered by waste vegetable oil and piloted by 15 Dartmouth students, will visit Memphis July 1-2 bringing a message of sustainability and conservation to the Mid-South. A "science fair on wheels," the bus serves as an exhibit for sustainable practices and will be available for tours downtown Memphis at the Civic Plaza from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 2.
The Dartmouth students' tour of Memphis
begins at Agricenter International, July 1 at 1:30 pm where they will hear
presentations concerning local biofuel efforts and local farmers' efforts to
begin production of alternative crops.
Pete Moss, Frazier Barnes Associates and Hillary Spain, BioDimensions,
Inc., will be the featured speakers.
Other representatives of local agriculture attending include Mike
Dennison, Univ. of Tennessee Director of Extension; John Charles Wilson,
president of Agricenter; and William Gillon, Gillon & Associates,
PLLC. The students will tour the
farmers' market and other aspects of Agricenter International, as well as
Shelby Farms Park where they will learn about the Master Plan for the park.
On Thursday, the group will meet with
Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton and Gregory Love of the Sustainable Shelby
initiative. The group also plans
to visit the National Civil Rights Museum and Milagro Biofuels.
